Why do people go to therapy? Should I go?This thing called life is a mixture of many ups and downs, twists and turns. Through life we may experience major changes and decisions. Which can cause stress, anxiety, depression, irritability, and trigger insecurities. All things that can effect our day to day functioning. Therapy provides you a space to slow down and reflect. In therapy you are able to identify the underlying problems that may consistently come up for you and find helpful solutions. Whether or not you should go is up to you. Therapy will always be voluntary. However, if figuring things out on your own hasn't been working and you are feeling alone and tired, therapy can be a good place to start alleviating those feelings. Through therapy you gain direction and increase your understanding of who you are, your needs, and goals. Therapy can also help you discover your blind spots; the parts about your life and self that may be hindering and harming you that you may have not seen before.

What’s the difference between talking to a therapist or friends and family?Short answer, perspective, training, and experience. Long answer, a therapist can help you see your situation in a whole new way with fresh eyes. They can point out patterns you've never noticed, teach you new skills, listen to you without bias, and help you discover different parts of yourself and needs. And most of all, therapy is completely confidential. What happens in session stays in session. Giving you space to be vulnerable and open up without fear.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?Medication should always be seen as an option or in addition to treatment. Because medication will not solve underlying issues such as the stressors in our life. Medication does treat some of the symptoms though i.e. anxiety and depression. But therapy treats the root of the issue. With therapy you will be able to reflect on your behaviors and learn strategies that can help in your everyday day life.

How long will it take? That depends in you and your needs.
